Crowdfunding for six community gardens

in Santa Cruz, Bolivia

About me

My name is Tereza and I am from Belgium.

I have always been interested in circular economy, social justice and local production systems.

After completing my architecture studies in Belgium, I started looking for opportunities to develop myself further. Thus, in September 2022, I left for Latin America for six months, to leave behind the comfortable life in Belgium for a while and explore new paths abroad.

Although it is not easy to shape this foreign experience, one of my important principles is not to experience it purely as a tourist. Thus, I kept looking for ways to give something back to the countries I visit. Thanks to Techo, I am able to do this in Bolivia.

TECHO is Latin America NGO that has been present in 18 Latin American countries for 25 years, working for a just society without poverty. In January 2023, I will spend a week on the TECHO team in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

About the projet

«When the last tree is cut down, the last fish eaten and the last stream poisoned, you will realize that you cannot eat money.» (Alanis Obomsawin)

200 million Latin Americans live in poverty in informal settlements. In Bolivia, 4 out of 10 Bolivians lived in poverty before the pandemic caused by COVID.

You can make the difference in this campaign. With your support I will create and manage six community gardens in the neighbourhood «Ciudadela Nueva Jerusaleme»

After this campaign, that runs from October 31, 2022 untill December 31 2022, I will participate in the community for a week and help with the start-up and creation of the community gardens for 6 families from the neighbourhood.

Why community gardens?

By doing so, the families reduce the risk of not having enough food. In fact, by growing their own food, they are less dependent on the economic situation. After training, the families know how to grow quality food and how to use organic waste as nutrients for the soil. By including neighbors, each community garden is part of a whole, which will strengthen ties in the community.

Thanks to this project, you give the participating families the ability to grow their own vegetables and to live with more dignity .So they can escape the poverty situation in which they live.

What will the resources be used for?

These gardens are an investment that is sustainable and self-sustaining. They provide food security for people living in poverty in this neighbourhood.

The total cost of the project is 1,600 euros. I cannot do this alone.

May I turn to you and ask you to support me? Your generosity and solidarity will help me realize the project «Hands in the earth, six gardens» for the community of Ciudadela Nueva Jerusaleme.

The support collected will be used to purchase materials (seeds, tools, compost) and for training.

In the project, I will work with other TECHO volunteers and members of the Ciudadela Nueva Jerusaleme community.

Thank you. Through your help people living in different realities have the opportunity to meet, work together and help each other.

Through this project, experiences, reflections and ideas are exchanged that make
everyone «richer».
